Section Five: Other Ways to Help

DANI: Thanks for listening to our experiences, being open-minded, and trying to better understand your students. Hopefully you are or will consider being an ally.

There are lots of ways you can support your students. Being an ally means stopping bullying, disrespect, discrimination, and teasing whenever you see it. Know your school policies for reporting abuse and referring students to sources of strength.

CASEY: If you suspect abuse, report it. And go with your gut: if you sense that a student is feeling really hopeless and thinking about suicide, or that anyone might be in immediate danger, take action right away. Inform a supportive counselor or contact a local or national crisis center.

DANI: Rainbow flags, “safe zone” stickers, and other supportive ally signs also show open-mindedness, not just to LGBTQ students, but all students. Visit the resources section at the end of this transcript for more information.

TYLER: Then, take the survey to leave feedback to make this simulation stronger.

And last, print out your certificate of completion. Because you are awesome. Thank you.

DANI: Yeah, thanks for listening!
