Alcohol and Other Drugs

PIC 12: Screen returns to Kacey.

This one time my friend was about to leave with someone, and both of them were too drunk to be able to consent to sex. I wanted to distract her, so I asked her for help writing a message to my crush from lit class.

In at least half of sexual assault cases, alcohol is an influencing factor, either by the perpetrator, the victim, or both. This is why it's important for friends to look out for each other.

Sometimes distracting works, sometimes delegating works, sometimes being direct works. You might need a little of all three, or it could take a combination of any two. And one or two might fail miserably. And that’s okay.

It’s not like any of these are better than the other, it's really just about trial and error, and thinking about what might be useful in the moment.

You’re going to get a chance to go back into the party as Emma. Kevin found you and warned you that Charlie was standing in the yard, talking about jumping off the roof in hopes of going viral.

PIC 13: The thumbnails of the three characters, Emma, Charlie, Kevin, appear again. A yellow arrow points from Kevin to Emma.

Kevin tried to convince him to head out with you two, but it didn’t work. He figured since you two are good friends maybe you would have a better shot.

Kevin delegated to you, and you feel like you don’t need to delegate further. So try the other two Ds, direct and distract, to get him to leave the party with you.

Scenario: Talk with Charlie at the Party

Your friend Kevin just delegated to you to help Charlie because you have known Charlie longer and have a closer relationship with him. Charlie’s been drinking all night and said he was about to jump off the roof.

Try to be direct and/or distract Charlie to keep him from drinking more or doing anything dangerous.
