Step 5: Set a Timeline

The final step in the framework is setting a timeline. In this step, you should clearly establish how the change will be measured, when the teacher should start implementing the change, and when you will check on the teacher's progress.

If you see the teacher has made the next steps smoothly, a follow-up e-mail will suffice--praising the improvement and encouraging the teacher to think of additional improvements to make in this area prior to the next observation. If the action step has not been successfully implemented, you'll need to meet with the teacher and discuss the progress in this area.

If possible, the timeline you set should be short, to encourage the teacher to make the change while the feedback is still fresh in his/her mind. An ideal timeline is one to three weeks.
