Overview

Welcome to the simulation titled TINA: Talking about Infection & Neutropenia Awareness. This is a transcript of one conversation about a doctor talking to their patient about the dangers of neutropenia and infections during chemotherapy. Tina Gonzales is a medical professional who works with cancer patients every day. Her patient, Joseph Hines, is sixty years old and has just been diagnosed with stage two lung cancer. Joe is about to begin his first round of chemo. Tina’s goals in the conversation are to make sure Joseph understands:

Tina can accomplish these goals by providing Joseph with all the information he needs, doing frequent checks for understanding, and making sure he feels comfortable contacting his medical team with any questions or concerns.

These conversation examples are based off of the CDC's recommended best practices in what information you provide to your patients and how you provide it. You can use these examples to reflect on how you conduct these conversations.
