TIPS FOR EATING RIGHT

The first thing you should do is take the saltshaker off the table. Even if you don’t use it that often, it will help if you put it inside of a cabinet, out of sight, out of mind.

Think about what foods your family eats on holidays or at get-togethers. Foods that are usually found on hors d’oeuvres trays, and holiday hams are examples of foods to avoid. Plan ahead for these occasions, so that low-sodium options are available.

Even if you’re going out to dinner, know what choices are available before you go. Always ask about low-sodium alternatives.

Finally, your family, friends, or neighbors may be able to help you with buying food, cooking, and making smart decisions. Don’t be afraid to ask for help!
