Your child may be presented with the choice to drink alcohol at a much earlier age than you think. However, the good news is that if you make it clear that you don’t expect them to drink, they’re much less likely to start drinking. If you help your child think through the consequences of drinking, reasons not to drink, and how to resist peer pressure, then they will be better prepared to make the right decisions. Even if your child doesn’t have much to say or seems really uncomfortable during your first conversation about alcohol, you still got them thinking.

Remember, even when kids aren’t saying much, they still hear you.
