Now that you've seen examples of change talk, see if you can identify the statement that contains it.

Question 1:

Identify the statement that contains change talk.

  1. My grades would probably be better if I didn't smoke as much.
  2. I smoke to relax.
  3. My girlfriend would break up with me if I stopped smoking.

The correct answer is A. This is change talk because it presents a positive consequence of behavior change.

Question 2:

Identify the statement that contains change talk.

  1. I only have a beer or two, it's not a big deal.
  2. My friend got drunk and started a fight.
  3. My parents don't care that I have a beer every once in a while.

The correct answer is B. This is change talk because it shares a consequence of drinking that could be a possible reason to change.
