Thanks for talking with Hope! Here is a summary of the information you learned. Feel free to come back and talk to Hope again for another child or another question you may have.

Intro

Where do we start when it comes to building resiliency? What can help is first establishing a conversation foundation. You can do this by learning better communication skills when talking with your child, and then making it a point to actually spend time together communicating. When you have a solid conversation foundation together, it will make having tough conversations easier and allow little check ins to happen naturally.

Identify

Identifying is the first step in building resiliency. It means knowing your child and noticing when things change. These changes could be something like a child having trouble with bedtime routines.

Your child is between 12 and 14. Children at this age are entering their pre teen years which can be all about their friends and self image. Passive aggressive behavior is common and can be a good time to have conversations around healthy self image and building good relationships. Theses conversations can be a great way to bring up resiliency.

If your child is experiencing any risk factors (or others) that concern you, it’s a good idea to reach out for additional support or help, and your child's school is a great place to start. Know that asking for help is part of being a parent, you are never alone in this journey.
